Procel, National Program for Electrical Energy Saving (www.proceinfo.com.br), is a federal government program (Ministry of Mines and Energy) executed by Eletrobras. The goal of Procel is to encourage conscious use of electrical energy through using efficient appliances and sustainable attitudes. Among the resources sponsored by Procel is the Procel Seal, which is awarded to appliances with high energy efficiency (use less electricity).
Energy efficiency of appliances is classified by INMETRO and shown in the ENCE Tag (National Tag for Energy Saving). ENCE Tag classify applies as A (high efficiency) to E (less efficiency).
How much is this saving?
For a 9,000 BTUs split air conditioner, one can save approximately R$ 50.00 monthly (R$ 600.00 yearly) for an appliance with a Procel Seal compared with an appliance with a C ENCE Tag. The savings can be more or less, depending on several factors, such as size of refrigerated room, working hours, electrical energy cost, size and legnth of electrical cables connected to the appliance, and people behavior. Despite these factors, one think is for sure: appliances with the Procel Seal save money.
Next time you buy an appliance, prefer appliances with the Procel Seal to save in your electrical energy bill.
